About

Hello there!

My name is Jacob, and thank you for visiting my website.

I have had a deep interest in technology and computers for as long as I can remember, as well as a strong desire to learn how things work. As a child I was sticking my fingers in light bulb sockets and deleting random things in system32 on family member’s computers to try to figure out how it all works. Now-a-days, I’m typically much less destructive with my curiosity. 😉

I am also very interested in how technology can be used to build community or change lives for the better. As a teen, I started down this path by hosting a forum community for a small-ish circle of friends I made online talking about gaming (shout out if you remember the NSider Forums!), renting VPSes and writing PHP to customize our Simple Machines Forum instance, running IRC, and other services. The perfect job allows me to harness this energy and desire to make the world a better place.

I am the kind of technologist that does this for both a living and for a hobby, however, building software is not my only hobby. I have two dogs, Zelda and Lady, who I love very much and keep me very busy. As of writing, they are 13 and 9 respectively, and are still full of energy. I really enjoy music, these days I do much more listening (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Vulfpeck are two of my current favorites), but I can play trumpet and I’m always thinking about learning a new instrument. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, no particular activity, but camping, biking, hiking, or just chilling outside and grilling are all fun. I do a fair share of gaming as well. I tend to be interested in online social RPGs or deep factory/industrial simulations.

I think that’s enough about me for now. Thanks so much for stopping by and reading this and learning a bit more about me. Do feel free to reach out on any of my socials or drop me a note via email! I’m always happy to chat. 🙂
